September/October Fishing Report

Writer's picture: BrandonBrandon

September and October have been hectic to say the least. Hurricane prep, hunting trips, and scouting new places to guide have filled up the books. We've managed some good trips in between the chaos and had lot's of opportunities with happy fish. The Hurricane caused a lot of damage just south of Tampa Bay and we were extremely fortunate to not have been in its path. Tailwater Outfitters donated supplies from customers to a local church and food bank that directly helped the community in the hurricane's path. I'm happy to be a part of a great shop that helps when it sees opportunity to do so.

Redfish were around in bunches prior to the storm and have broken away from their usual places probably due to the water movement from the storm as well as the big cold front we saw in mid October. While there are still fish around they are not in big groups like I was seeing prior to the storm. They will likely begin bunching up again as things calm and we have some consistent fall weather. Snook have been an easy target over muddy bottom around rivers and creeks. Find an area like this with good afternoon sun and you'll likely find snook willing to take a fly. A string of warm afternoons and some warm air from a good south with will really fire the snook bit up for the next month or so. It's an absolute blast to find hungry snook in our tidal creeks and rivers. They eat well and fight hard while moving to their winter haunts.

I also got to do some fishing along the middle Texas coast while looking into new work opportunities. I am happy to announce that I'll be guiding at the Bay Flats Lodge in Seadrift Texas next summer and early fall. I'll have availability there from Mid July to the end of September. Bay Flats Lodge is an extremely well run outfit that provides some of the best sight fishing, bay fishing, and duck hunting that Texas has to offer. Targets include Redfish, Speckled Trout, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Flounder. If you're interested in staying at the lodge I'll be happy to help you set up your stay!

I'm also putting together an email list to let you all know what availability I have and where it is during certain times of the year. If you'd like to sign up you can join here. https://www.bflycharters.com/join-my-email-list
